They design, manufacture and launch advanced rockets into space, and now they’re moving some of their operations over to Port Canaveral. SpaceX plans to lease “the 52,000-square-foot building” in Port Canaveral, according to an article by Florida Today.
SpaceX plans to lease the building in Port Canaveral to refurbish rockets, along with other functions. The space launch company is also planning to construct a second building on an empty lot near the former Spacehab building, according to Florida Today.
Port executives are happy to have SpaceX move some of their operations over to Port Canaveral. Executives told Florida Today that it’s good for the Port and the community.
SpaceX currently operates two launch pads at Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, but are rapidly expanding. Florida Today reported SpaceX “has been searching for more room since they began launching Falcon 9 rocket boosters in December.”
Port Chief Executive Officer John Murray told Florida Today that everyone is excited about SpaceX coming to the Port. “They’re a great client to have on our port. It’s a win-win for everybody,” Murray said to Florida Today.
No details have surfaced about how many people will work at the new SpaceX facility. Other operations they’ll perform have not yet been announced.
