Maritime Day- falling on May 22 this year- is a United States holiday that recognizes voyagers of the sea and the maritime industry. The date marks the day the American steamship Savannah set sail from Savannah, Georgia in 1819. This was the first transoceanic voyage under steam power, and the beginning of advanced exploration and trade. As a major hub for the Maritime business, it’s fitting that Port Canaveral will celebrate Maritime Day. Check out the details below!
The celebration is on Saturday, May 27 at 10AM at Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill. There will be a boat ride for a memorial wreath laying included with a luncheon. This is on a first come, first served basis.
The Cape Canaveral Council of the U.S. Navy League, the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral, Military Sealift Command Space Coast Retirees, the Space Coast Chapter of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Alumni, and the Canaveral Pilots Association presents this year’s celebration.
